Women Development Cell (WDC)
Composition of the WDC:
1. Chairperson
o A senior woman faculty member (preferably a Head of Department or Dean)
2. Faculty Members (3–5)
o At least 50% should be women
o From various departments to ensure broad representation
3. Administrative Staff Representative
o A female non-teaching staff member
4. Student Representatives (2–3)
o Female students from UG and PG levels, selected based on merit and discipline
5. NGO/Social Activist Member (optional)
o A woman from outside the institution with experience in women’s rights, law, or counseling
Note:
• Tenure: 1–2 years (renewable)
• Must meet regularly and maintain confidentiality in grievance redressal
Roles and Responsibilities of Women Development Cell (WDC)
Women Empowerment
• Promote awareness about gender equality, women’s rights, and legal provisions
• Organize events on leadership, career development, health & hygiene, selfdefense, etc.
• Conduct skill development workshops for women students and staff
Safety and Grievance Redressal
• Address complaints related to:
o Gender discrimination
o Harassment (other than sexual harassment, which is handled by the ICC)
o Insecurity or unsafe conditions for women on campus
• Coordinate with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) when needed
• Recommend measures to the institution for ensuring women’s safety
Awareness and Sensitization
• Conduct seminars, lectures, and awareness campaigns on:
o Gender sensitization
o Sexual harassment and workplace rights
o Mental health and emotional well-being of women
• Celebrate events like:
o International Women’s Day
o National Girl Child Day
o Menstrual Hygiene Day
Policy Development
• Suggest institution-wide policies that promote gender inclusivity and safety
• Advocate for:
o Women-friendly infrastructure (common rooms, sanitary facilities)
o Flexible rules for maternity/health issues
o Equal participation in committees, academics, and leadership roles
Reporting and Documentation
• Maintain records of activities, events, and grievances addressed
• Submit annual reports to the principal or university body on WDC functioning
Key Objectives of the WDC
• Create a gender-sensitive and respectful campus environment
• Promote inclusiveness and eliminate gender bias
• Strengthen the voice and representation of women in institutional processes
