MASTERS OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS (MCA)

The 2 Years of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program is being offered by Gujarat Technological University, Ahmedabad and designed to meet the growing demand of qualified professionals in the field of Computer Science and Information Technology, especially in the design and development of software system. By providing concept-oriented subject knowledge through high-quality teaching, supplemented with practical training, the Department aims to bring out the bright minds to a great career. During the course the students will study the Programming, Web Developments, ML, AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT) and much more. The Program also imparts the ability to analyse, design, develop and manage software development.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

A candidate must have passed a qualifying examination such as B.C.A., B.Sc. (Computer Science), B.Sc. (IT), B.E. (CSE), B.Tech. (CSE), B.E. (IT), B.Tech. (IT), or an equivalent degree. Alternatively, any bachelor’s degree (e.g., B.E., B.Tech., B.Sc., B.Com., B.A., B.Voc., etc.), preferably with Mathematics, Business Mathematics, or Statistics at the 10+2 or graduation level, is acceptable, provided the candidate has secured at least 50% marks in the qualifying examination (45% for candidates from reserved categories). For students without a Mathematics background, the respective university or institution shall mandate a compulsory bridge course, along with additional bridge courses in computer subjects as per the norms of the concerned university.

ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION

Each semester features one Mid-Semester (Internal) Examination carrying 70 marks. Students who fail this examination must appear for a Remedial Examination with the same marks allocation. Additionally, one University Examination worth 70 marks is conducted per semester. A minimum of 50% marks in each subject is required to pass.

Note – Almost every subject includes separate practical examinations at both Mid-Semester (internal) and University (external) levels.

PROJECT WORK

In the third and fourth semesters, two specialized subjects are introduced: Research Work (Phase-1)/Minor Project and Research Work (Phase-2)/Major Project. Each student is required to practically develop a system as part of these subjects.

In the fourth semester, students undertake a full-time software project, which includes an internship and training at an actual IT company. Upon project completion, the company issues a certificate, which is also provided by the college. Each student is assigned two mentors: one internal mentor from the college and one external mentor from the company.

Project evaluation is based on the developed system, documentation, presentation, and viva voce performance, conducted by both internal and external examiners.
