MASTER OF COMPUTER APPLICATION
MCA is a two year (4 semesters) PG programme affiliated with Gujarat Technological University (GTU), Ahmedabad. The curriculum has a strong core covering information technology, business management and mathematics. The students entering MCA must have a B.C.A./B.Sc./ B.Com/B.A. degree with Mathematics as one of the subjects at 10+2 level or at graduation. Of the 4 semesters one semester is to be spent in an industry, developing a software system. The MCA programme is planned to have 4 to 5 theory subjects with laboratories in each subject and one project that should be developed using any open source technology framework for every semester except the last which has Industrial Training Project.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) India and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recognizes MCA as a two year masters degree.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
A candidate shall have passed the qualifying examination with minimum of 50% marks (45% marks in case SC/ST/OBC category) of grand total.
A candidate shall have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (Standard XII, 10+2 pattern) and Bachelor’s degree with Mathematics or Business Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects.
A candidate shall have appeared in the CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) as prescribed by AICTE, for the corresponding year.
PROGRAM STRUCTURE
MCA programs take place over two academic years or four semesters. Students take classes during weekdays except holidays and sit for semester examination twice a year.
COURSE MODULES
In each semester, there would be seven course modules with a total teaching time of 50 hours per paper per semester. Each subject paper would consist of four or five credits.
Of the 15 subjects 14 are in information technology, 2 in mathematics and 10 are electives. It is observed that 85% of the curriculum consists of compulsory courses and 15% are electives. Each laboratory should be of at least 2 hour duration. Each student should spend at least 2 hours on a terminal per day.
Besides formal courses the curriculum includes one lecture per week in the 5th semester by an industry representative who would present the current application of computer in their industry.
PROJECT WORK
Each student will do a mini-project in the first three Semesters, and a major full-time Industrial project in Semester 4. Projects will be undertaken by students in team or individual and at the end of the project, students submit a project report, do a presentation on the subject of the report, and appear for a viva-voce on the project. Performance will be evaluated by internal and external examiners.
ASSESSMENT PATTERN
- The MCA Programme is carried out based on semester pattern with four semesters in two academic years.
- The assessment pattern for MCA programme comprises a module of a final semester-end examination carried out by the Gujarat Technological University and internal evaluation by the college as well.
- All subjects having theory or theory and practical/tutorial have 70 marks of GTU’s final theory exam(E), 30 marks of mid –semester college exam(M) and 20 marks of internal assessment/Continuous Evaluation Component.(I).
- Constant analysis of assignment, seminars, quizzes, attendance, regularity and behaviour takes place by the concerned faculty who decides the scheme of assessment and announces at the beginning of the term.(semester).
- Only practical/tutorial subjects will have 70 marks of University exam and 30 marks midterm examinations, so as total number of backlogs are not more than 4.
- Duration of the question paper is 2:30 hours.
- There will be 5 questions of maximum 70 marks out of which questions of 21 marks will be compulsory.
After adding the internal marks with the marks secured by the student in the University examination, the marks will be converted to a letter grade as per the following:
- 85 -100 marks – AA grade
- 75 – 84 marks – AB grade
- 65 – 74 marks – BB grade
- 55 – 64 marks – BC grade
- 50 – 54 marks – CC grade
- Less than 50 marks is FF grade
