B.SC MICROBIOLOGY
The Mandvi Education Society was founded in 1892 to provide students with a strong value system to tackle the challenges of a constantly changing world. Our objective is to construct and operate a high-quality teaching and research institution in a low-income rural community. The college campus has classrooms with sufficient ventilation, multiple laboratories, smart classrooms, libraries, digital libraries, computer centres, innovative learning program centres, auditoriums, and seminar halls. We provide a wide range of bachelor and master’s courses in science, commerce, computer science, and management, all of which are affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and Gujarat Technological University. Students can choose the ideal course for them based on their interests and career ambitions. Our faculty is highly qualified and experienced, allowing us to give the best education possible to our students.
IMPORTANCE OF MICROBIOLOGY
Microbiology is the study of bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa and viruses, and is of immense importance in relation to the environment, agriculture and food, biomedical sciences and biotechnology. Graduates in microbiology are therefore highly sought after in these fields. Microbiology is very central to many aspects of the biological sciences, from pure research to diverse industrial, medical and environmental applications.
Microorganisms play major roles in the diseases of man, animals and plants. Microbiologists have been central to their diagnosis and in combating such diseases through the discovery of effective therapies.
Microorganisms also play a central role in the biosphere, through global environmental processes and recycling of elements and waste products.
In biotechnology and synthetic biology, microbes are also crucial in the manufacture of beverages, pharmaceuticals, biofuels and many other useful products.
OBJECTIVE OF COURSE
The course is set within the context of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, having largest grouping of microbiologists in the Southern Gujarat, which brings together experts in areas of microbiology from fundamental science of model organisms to translational research on key pathogens. Students will gain specialist knowledge and insight in key aspects of bacterial infection. The programme also covers the latest research on microbiomes, mycology, antimicrobials and bacterial envelopes, much of which comes from staff members’ own research.
Bottom-Up approach
The course will enable you to develop basic abilities and skills on which to build professional capability in a healthcare or related microbiology or biomedical research setting. It will provide you with a foundation in the fundamental molecular microbiology that underlies understanding of infectious disease in healthcare, diagnosis and treatment.
Set foundation
The course provides a foundation in the fundamental microbiology that underlies the ongoing and increasing challenge of bacterial infectious disease in healthcare, diagnosis and treatment. The course will equip you to progress to employment in biomedical science, or to embark on a postgraduate research degree in a related field.
Laboratory Work
Hands-on laboratory experience will allow you to develop your experimental skills and give you experience of handling a range of microorganisms. You will have the opportunity to carry out a research project.

The course brings together experts in areas of microbiology from fundamental science of model organisms to translational research on key pathogens.

Continuing developments in infection including Corona virus family, increasing resistance of pathogens to antibiotics, the emergence of ‘superbugs’ and the increasing problem of microbial infections, emphasize the need for experts in this field now and into the future.

The course will give you a thorough grounding in this important and topical area of biomedical science, enabling your entry into employment in health-related positions including hospital and public health laboratories, industry (biotechnology, pharmaceutical and other sectors) and regulatory or quality assurance functions in the public sector or industry. It will also prepare you to work in an academic research setting, or studying for a MSc/PhD as the next step on a research-based career path.
CURRICULUM
Three years (Full Time) B.Sc. (Microbiology) programs normally take place over three academic years (i.e. approximately 36 months of term time with six semesters). In addition to it, if the student continues for the fourth year (Semesters 7th and 8th) then he/she will be awarded the degree of B.Sc. honours.)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The candidate must have passed std. 12th Science (Under 10+2 Pattern) with B group examination from Gujarat State Education Board or equivalent board of any other state.
